I created a Puddle Generator in Substance Designer for the recent New York Train environment that I made. The generator isn't anything fancy but it's an effective way to make puddle decals quickly. This with the use of vertex painting puddles in to your materials can create a nice effect. I know that most people will just vertex paint this information in but by using the decal method you can get some nicer edges in places.
You will need to download the free program 'Substance Player' to use this tool. Once you are happy with the shape of the puddle you may want to crop the texture to a more suitable size in Photoshop so that there is no wasted texture space, for example, export at 4k then crop the puddle onto a 512 texture.
The material I used for this in unreal is very quick and easy to set up and I've included an image of this in the gallery.
The generator has a lot of controls for changing up the shape of the puddle and you can also change the opacity of the puddle to better suit what you are after.
I'm giving this away for free and hopefully it will come in handy in your own environments.
